EHS Alumnus Tom Connors ’68 Gives Back to English and Through the Pathways Program

Recently retired Norfolk County Superior Court Judge Thomas Connors ’68 was on the English High campus speaking to students in the the Law & Protective Studies Technical Pathways.

Program instructor Chris Green, an attorney himself, reached out to Judge Connors with the speaking invitation. Judge Connors first spoke with program Seniors and Juniors and was joined by the Sophomores mid-way through.  In all 25 English students listened attentively and asked good questions of the Judge.

Judge Connors continues to “give back” to English and was recently invited to join the Advisory Board for the Pathways program.

About the English High Legal and Protective Studies Pathways Program

The English High School Legal and Protective Studies program provides students with an in-depth course of study in law and criminal justice. The Program prepares students to enter the workforce in the area of public safety and the legal profession by challenging them academically and physically. Students earn many certifications which are used in the legal field today including CPR, First Aid, OSHA and 911. Additionally, the rigorous legal curriculum provides students with a competitive edge in a wide variety of criminal justice areas when entering college.

Through this program students learn legal theory and its application in real world scenarios. Students gain insight into the philosophies and disciplines of a variety of criminal justice areas such as effective communications, crime scene processing, criminal law and procedure, disaster preparedness, ethics, law enforcement, private investigations, and trial practice.

About The Technical Pathways Program

The English High School’s Technical Pathways Program is one of the most exciting programs emerging across BPS, one that prepares students to be leaders in college and career.

Students entering Grade 9 embark on a journey to understand their unique interests, perspectives, and learning styles with each student developing an individual educational and career plan. They will have the opportunity to explore careers in:

The Pathways have been designed to afford students authentic learning experiences that mirror professional workplace environments while developing literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills. These 21st Century Skills engage students through hands-on, project or problem-based learning that teaches communication, goal setting, and collaboration; culminating in presentations that demonstrate each studentʼs academic growth and accomplishments.
