President’s Message: Have You Purchased Your 200th Anniversary Gala Celebration Tickets Yet?

Don’t miss out on your historic 200th Anniversary Gala Celebration. Tickets for our big October 1st Gala event are now on sale and moving quickly. Nearly 100 seats have already been spoken for and sales will top out at 500 so don’t be left out.  Tickets are being scooped up by alumni, retired and current teachers, families and friends.  Purchase your tickets today at this link.

English alumni are coming from California to Maine, and states in between.  For those who are traveling , or Boston-area alumni who want to make a weekend out of it, the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel is offering a special English High School rate of $269/night – while supplies last.  Make your hotel reservations at this link

All of this information and more details can be found on the EHSA website (englishhighalumni.org).

Who’s coming to the Gala Celebration? We expect every decade from the 1940’s to 2020’s to be represented. This will be a grand event celebrating the history of English High School and the English High School of today.  You might rub elbows with a former career CIA executive, or a published writer, or a Tuskegee Airman, or the last surviving Navy Raider in New England? You will also get a chance to hear from and talk to many of today’s English High students some of whom we’ve sent on to Babson College, Wellesley College, Boston College, Boston University and more.  As alumni, we have helped many receive full scholarships!

Special messages from outstanding EHS Alumni who plan to be there and encourage you to join in the fun.

Fundraising: I’m proud to report that to date, we’ve raised over a $250K towards our $3MM goal for the next 3 years. It’s a good start but we still need your generosity to make it all work. We’re asking all alumni to make a “stretch gift” this year and for the next two years to get there. All gifts are fully tax deductible and there are many ways to give.  Visit our website for more information on the best ways for you to support English High School

Your gift to the English High School 200th Anniversary Fund will support today’s students through:

Scholarships
Alumni & Friends Tutoring Center
Music & Arts Programs
Career Pathways Program

Beyond dollars how can you help, you ask? The answer is to Get Involved! By reaching out to your classmates, your friends, their friend’s and more. If each alumni contact brings two friends or classmates, we will have a sellout crowd and a great time reminiscing and telling stories of English High days including ‘Who was your favorite teacher?’ stories that should not be told. Look, we’ve missed the past three years of reunion-like gatherings so let’s enjoy a real in-person, first-class party.

If you are interested in ‘getting involved’ please contact me or Bill at the EHSA office to help with ‘classmate calls’ to get the word out to former colleagues, fellow students, etc. You can make a difference by contacting alums you know who are unaware of this epic gathering.

Thanks, for your loyal support.

Onward!

Honor…Achievement…Service to Mankind

I was proud to meet up this month with a wonderful educator, Sage Marsters, who runs our Alumni & Friends Tutoring Center at English High School. Sage took the opportunity to send a special message of thanks to George Mavridis, the generous sponsor of the Tutoring Center.
