President’s Message – October, 2022
After Our Fabulous Gala Event, What’s Next?
When English High alumni ranging from former Massachusetts Lt. Governor Frank Bellotti ’42, to Dr. Jack MacLennan from Skokie, Illinois, tell you it was a good show, I believe we did a good job. On October 1st The English High School Association presented our ability to: 1. put on a classy celebration; 2. bring multiple generations of alumni together to reconnect; 3. showcase our students’ accomplishments and; 4. raise funds to assist our EHS students of today. But what’s next? How do we proceed?
My hope is we’ve been building alumni trust in our Association so you know we will be here for the foreseeable future, for our alumni community and for English High. Taking the long view, there is much to do and miles to go, fundraising-wise and programmatically.
We envision a future where EHSA continues to focus on supporting English High students through four key pillars: Scholarships, The Alumni & Friends Tutoring Center, Career Pathways Programs, and Music & Arts programs. See links below to learn more about each of these programs to better understand the difference they are making for students today.
These four pillars, along with other plans we have for the future, take ongoing funding and commitment from giving alumni. Many corporate and philanthropic sponsors pitched in to make our great Gala event the success it was. Now it’s the rank-and-file alumni’s turn to help us get to our 3-year fundraising goal of $3MM by 2024. Why not step up today to make a ‘stretch’ donation to support your Alma Mater?
For broader reach, ask a classmate or friend or family member to back our cause. You’d be surprised at folks’ positive response when you ask if they would support a high school’s record of 200 years of educating Boston’s working-class families. Be the change agent on your block, in your community and in your own family that makes a difference.
Thanks, again for your support, past present and future! Onward!
