What Can Your Alumni Association Do For You?

From the left: Steve Marder ’60, Steve Berkowitz ’60, Mike Thomas ’67 celebrate the English win over Latin

Let’s think about this for a second. You have all received notices, emails, mailers from English High School Alumni Association, right. Some alums do not even open an email or a letter from us. So how do we know what you are thinking or want from your Association? God knows, we all receive so many solicitations, financial and political, we are sick of them whether electronic, USPS or TV-based. EHSA wonders about these communications also.

What goes into an association, any type of an association…common denominators. What do we have in common? How does any association know what to do? These are all questions we ask ourselves each month before we write our monthly newsletters….how do we capture your attention? We think we’ve done our homework but only you can determine how well we’ve done it.

This month we’re focused on YOU. Tell us what you like and dislike about our newsletters, our organization and how we can make it better. How to improve the services we provide is important so we can serve you better. We work to gain your trust, enlist your enthusiastic volunteerism and hope for a donation or two for our $3MM Campaign goal.

It’s a Two-Way Street
I remember talking to an alum once who when I finally tracked him down, said, “I haven’t heard from anybody from the alumni office in years.” I told him point blank, you changed your name, address and email, so how do we contact you? If you want to hear from us, we need to hear from you. This is what I emphasized at the 200th Gala on October 1st.

It is of utmost important to keep your ‘Alumni profile’ up to date. If you move let us know, same with email and phone numbers. There is value in knowing about schedule changes, different school sporting events, etc…. like much communication in life, it is a two-way street.

The easiest way to send your updated contact information is through our website:  englishhighalumni.org.

Share Your Class News
If you want to let us know about you or an important event or milestone, drop us a note in Class News on our website.  Tell us about yourself!! Also, this is a good place to update your info. If you send it to us, we will make the changes necessary.

Finally, in order to be here for you we need your financial support. We’re in the middle of a multi-year $3MM Campaign. We ask all alums to make a ‘stretch donation’ this year and the next two years to make our goal.  In addition, right now, we have a $50,000 ‘matching fund’  in place. This means each dollar you give is doubled, effectively increasing your gift by 2 times.

Why wait?  If at year end you need the tax advantage of charitable giving, our students need your support: SCHOLARSHIPS, TUTORING CENTER, MUSIC and ARTS and CAREER PATHWAYS are all enrichment programs we directly support…can you help improve them with us?

Thanks, again for your support, past, present and future!    Onward!

A Reminder About Year-End Giving

As the end of year approaches, this is a good time to talk with your personal financial planner or tax accountant about ways you can make a gift to EHSA that may benefit your personal tax situation.  We are pleased to accept your gift through the vehicle that works best for you which may include:

    • Making a direct gift
    • Giving through your IRA/Required Minimum Distribution
    • Setting up planned giving
    • Making a gift of retirement assets

Visit our website for more information and necessary forms for each of these ways of giving.
