The English High School Association Announces Line-up of Scholarships to be Presented to English High’s 200th Graduation Class — the Class of 2024

2024 EHSA Scholarships will include five new scholarships funded by Alumni families

The Cullen Family Scholarship
New for 2024

Francis T. Cullen, English High Class of 1939

Established in honor of Francis T. Cullen ’39 by his sons John Cullen ’65 and Frank Cullen ’68.

Awarded each year to a graduating senior who embodies the Cullen family’s penchant for learning and teaching.  Whether a class leader, performing artist or a varsity athlete, the student must have earned an excellent GPA and demonstrated financial need.

The Stella & Emmanuel Mavridis Scholarship

2022 Mavridis Scholarship Recipient Eirini Voutsadaki

Established by George Mavridis in honor of his mother, Stella, and his father, Emmanuel Mavridis, an English High Graduate of the 1920’s

The Mavridis Scholarship was established as part of the gift that enables EHSA to fund the Alumni & Friends Tutoring Center.  In 2024 three recipients (one winner and two runner-ups) are selected to receive the award based on their written essay reviewed by the Essay Committee that includes George Mavridis, EHSA representatives and the director of the Alumni & Friends Tutoring Center.

The Coach Bill Stewart Jr. Scholarship

Beloved English High Coach Bill Stewart Jr.

Re-established in 2023 through the efforts of EHSA

The Coach Bill Stewart Jr. Scholarship was originally established in 1987 and is awarded to two English High senior athletes who best exemplify persistence, competitiveness, spirit and good sportsmanship at English High School.  Two scholarships are awarded each year, one to a boy and one to a girl athlete.

The Nollman Family Scholarship

Established by Michael Nollman, Class of 1952

Awarded each year to a graduating senior who will be attending a two or four-year college.

The Alice and Harry Eramian Scholarship
New for 2024

Established by Daniel Eramian ’66 in honor of his parents

The Eramian Scholarship is awarded to a student with plans to attend a four-year college or university.

The Richard M. Long Scholarship
New for 2024

Bill Stewart Jr. ’37 shown here in 1936 in his English High football uniform.

Given in the memory and honor of Coach Bill Stewart Jr ’37

This scholarship was established by Richard M. Long, Esq of the English High Class of 1952.  It will be awarded to a student athlete who has been accepted into a four-year college or university with the sole purpose of the funds being for college or university expenses.

The Errol L.C. Brown Memorial Scholarship
New for 2024

Errol L.C. Brown

Given in memory of Errol Brown by his father, George Brown ’60

George Brown established this scholarship in memory of his son Errol who passed away due to cancer.  George wishes this award to go to a college-bound senior in the English High Health Assisting Career Pathways program.

The DeWayne Walker Memorial Scholarship
New for 2024

Students in the English High Health Assisting Career Pathways Program

Given in memory of DeWayne Walker by his wife, Sonya Walker ’81

Since DeWayne Walker passed away due to cancer, his wife Sonya wishes this award to go to a college-bound senior in the Health Assisting Career Pathways program.
