Honorary Chair Martin Walsh sends his best wishes to English
Recently, EHSA President Michael Thomas and Board Chairman Greg Hayes spoke with former Mayor of Boston, Martin Walsh at a local philanthropic event. Not long afterwards, EHSA received a heartwarming and handwritten note from The Honorable Martin Walsh. It certainly gave the team at EHSA a boost so we’re sharing it with all of you today. Secretary Walsh has his own unique writing style but we believe the message is:
Michael, It was great seeing you and I want to let you know that I will always support English High — MW
As you may already know, Martin Walsh has agreed to be the Honorary Chair of our 200th Anniversary Gala Event.
Meet the Leadership Team for our 200th Anniversary Gala
Three distinguished English High Alumni and community leaders – John Talbot ’67, Allan Kiser ’82 and Migdalia Nalls ’97 — have been named Co-Chairs of the schools’ 200th Anniversary Celebration Gala to be held on October 1 in Boston. That event will kick off a three-year campaign to fund Scholarships, the Alumni & Friends Tutoring Center and Career Pathways Programs, all supported by EHSA.
The announcement was made by Gregory Hayes, Chairman of the English High School Association Board and by Michael Thomas, EHSA Board President and CEO. Both are members of the Class of 1967.

John Talbot ’68, Co-Chair
After graduating from English High, John Talbot studied Accounting and Business at Boston College and began his career at Arthur Andersen, the international accounting firm. He held senior posts with National Medical Care and Boston Children’s Hospital before founding the first medical home care model company in the U. S., Pathways Healthcare, a pioneering concept that brings physicians and nurse practitioners along with a fully integrated disciplinary team to the home. At EHS, Talbot played football, baseball and was a member of the debate and band teams. He says he owes so much to EHS, “especially the faculty and coaches who prepared me for my professional and personal life.”

Migdalia Iris Nalls ’97, Co-Chair
Migdalia Iris Nalls, who has earned a reputation as a “legal powerhouse,” has served with distinction as a prosecutor and public defender for juveniles. She attributes much of her success to the confidence and support she gained at EHS: “I knew I had to become a lawyer after my experience on EHS’s Mock Trial Debate team. The Dorchester native graduated from Boston College and BC Law School and began her career at the Roxbury Division of Boston Municipal Court. She was an Assistant DA for seven years handling adult criminal felony, misdemeanor cases, youthful offender and delinquency cases. She later worked in a U.S Department of Justice program representing low-income victims of domestic violence and family law. Nalls is a trial attorney for the Youth Advocacy Division of the Committee for Public Counsel Services, defending young people charged with delinquent / criminal charges.

Allan Kiser ’82, Co-Chair
Allan Kiser, Class of 1982, attended Guilford College in North Carolina, then UMass-Boston where he earned his BA in Legal Studies. His first job was as a driver at Fidelity Investments for company executives. He was promoted to Compliance Officer, sort of a “financial sheriff.” He also worked at iconic financial services firms Putnam, Scudder, UBS and Bank of New York. Kiser reminisces fondly about his high school days: “I always knew there was no substitute for hard work and grittiness. I learned this life lesson at English High. The school gave me a chance.”
