Greg Hayes ’67: English High School Association Chairman
His advice for today’s students: “Be proud to be from English High and realize that hard work and perseverance will pay off.”
Recently we caught up with Greg Hayes ’67, Chairman of the English High School Association Board of Directors. We were curious why he chose to attend English High out of Boston’s many high schools. He replied, “Since my father was in and out of my life, the time he took me to the Fens and showed me how to take a handoff as a running back was memorable. That day he said that he wanted me to play football for English or Latin.”

The rest is history. He played halfback for English High in 1965 and 1966. On the gridiron Greg was a member of the 1966 City Championship Football Team. In track, he was 1966 Indoor 300 yard State Class A Champion and a 1967 member of the 4 x 100 yard Class A relay team.
We asked if there was a specific teacher whose advice or mentorship has guided him in his career and life. Greg said, “Our Economics teacher, Ed Tierney, explained the economics of war and the real reason we were in Vietnam.”

Greg Hayes ’67 left, with Robert Kraft and Ray Burton, Jr. at the English High School 200th Anniversary Gala in October 2022.
Greg has had a multifaceted career. He held various positions with companies in a Human Resources capacity and founded several small businesses. Projects included contracts with the Department of Defense (Defense Finance & Accounting Services), Mass DOT (Snow & Ice Removal Systems utilizing early GPS/AVL/GIS technologies), MBTA (LED Display Technologies and Operations Command & Control Center Design), and the Department of Homeland Security (Mass. Interoperability Communications for First Responders and First Receivers). Currently Greg is a national consultant for National Media Spots, a media consulting firm, based in Framingham, Mass.
Greg says, “These business and community experiences, combined with his earlier counseling positions in Human Relations, have molded me into a detail-oriented yet compassionate individual.” Those who know and work with Greg commend his excellent communication skills and applaud his reputation for always coming through on both business and personal commitments.
As a single father of three boys, Greg is committed to the youth of America and supporting initiatives to improve their success. We applaud his continued commitment to his alma mater and to today’s EHS students. He advises, “Be proud to be from the first public high school and realize that hard work and perseverance will pay off. Don’t be afraid to ask for guidance and help.”
