EHS Pathways Students Visit West Roxbury Court

Students in the EHS Pathways Legal and Protective Services program had an exciting real-world learning experience this spring when a group of juniors visited West Roxbury Court with Retired Judge Tom Connors ’68.
About half of the Program’s junior class participated in the field trip, where they were welcomed by First Justice Kathleen Coffey. Upon arrival, Judge Coffey introduced the students to the court’s daily operations and outlined what they would observe in the courtroom.
The students then spent time in First Session, watching live proceedings and gaining insight into the roles of judges, attorneys, court officers, and other legal professionals. After the session, Judge Coffey met with them again for a thoughtful and engaging conversation. She generously answered questions about the justice system, career paths, and the responsibilities of the court.
A reminder, the Legal and Protective Services Pathways is one of five separate Career Pathways Programs at EHS fostering career-focused education, training, and technical and professional skills.
The visit offered students a valuable look into the legal process and the many career opportunities connected to public safety and the judicial system. Experiences like this continue to strengthen the EHS Pathways program by connecting classroom learning with real-world civic engagement.
