Richard H. Marson

Dick grew up in Boston College area of Brighton and attended the Thomas A. Edison Junior High School, before entering English High School on Montgomery Street in the South end where he graduated June,1951. At English he lettered as a varsity football player with arguably the longest public transportation commute to and from football practice of anyone playing schoolboy sports. He also threw the shot put and was a member of the track team.

He won the Lawrence Prize as a senior at English before entering Harvard College in 1951. He graduated from Harvard in June,1955 Majoring “Physical Sciences”.

Upon graduating from college, Dick joined his father and brother in the family business which his paternal grandfather had started in 1902. Originally, they manufactured a varied line of tin cans, but subsequently got involved with automotive manufacturers who wanted perforated lock seamed tubes for filtration.

In the late 1990’s, the family decided to sell the business. To ease the operational transition, he and his family members stayed on for five years indoctrinating the new ownership.

In retirement’s free time, Dick has taken college classes and has gotten increasingly involved serving on the Alumni Board of English High School, first as a Director and then as Treasurer for many years. He is longest serving member of the Alumni Board and was honored as a ‘Lifetime Service Award’ recipient from the Association November, 2018.

Dick has 2 daughters and a son and lives in Needham, MA with his lovely wife, Vivian of 63 years.
