Six months ago, Anderson Guerrero ’23 had just graduated from English High School, having served as Class President and Captain of the football team. EHSA selected Anderson as recipient of the Coach Bill Stewart Jr. Scholarship presented to the senior who best exemplifies persistence, competitiveness, spirit and good sportsmanship at English High School. Today he is a freshman at the highly-regarded Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, founded 1819, just two years before English High school. Just like you, we wanted to know how he’s doing.

The beautiful campus of Norwich University is located in Northfield, VT. Norwich was founded in 1819, just two years before The English High School.

EHSA: How are you liking Norwich University? Any big surprises?

Anderson: I’m loving Norwich. It’s a new experience going from the city to the Green Mountain State. My favorite course is Intro to Criminal Justice because, thanks to Mr. Green’s Protective Services class at EHS,  I’ve been thriving and understand what the professor is talking about 100% of the time. I also like how my professor teaches the material with a lot of passion and makes me excited to go to class. Other courses I’m taking include Spanish and Writing. Next semester I’m excited to take Forensics and Professionalism in Criminal Justice (CJ).

EHSA: Do you still feel that certain EHS courses and teachers prepared you well for Norwich?

Anderson: I feel like if it wasn’t for Ms. Silas, Ms. Deguzman, and Mr. Green I would not have been prepared for college Ms. Deguzman helped me prepare to write at the college level.  Mr. Green and Ms. Silas helped me prepare for the topics that are going to be talked about in my CJ class..

EHSA: Do you have advice for today’s seniors about colleges, careers, life, etc.?

Anderson: What I say to today’s senior class is that in life you have to take advantage of the opportunity life gives you and not take any opportunity for granted because you will never get the same opportunity again. Sometimes it’s the little things that you decide to do with your life that changes it. Another thing is the biggest challenge in your life can be yourself! Things like procrastination and self-doubt can affect your life a lot. Once you acknowledge that the only thing that’s stopping you is you, then you will become successful and be able to do whatever you put your mind to.

Anderson proudly shared this photo of his Norwich jersey and helmet.

EHSA: Are you playing football?

Anderson: I’m playing football for Norwich. It’s been the best experience with the players and the coaches. I feel like just after one season I really became a part of a family and brotherhood and a long line of tradition. I’m more than excited for whatever comes with Norwich football throughout the years.

EHSA:  Do you still want to go into law enforcement?

Anderson: I still have a passion for policing in Boston. I would love to be a State Trooper or a Boston Police officer.

EHSA:  Other thoughts?

Anderson: I feel like I found a new home at Norwich and can’t wait to graduate and come back to Boston and become a police officer and serve and protect the streets of Boston or the whole state of Massachusetts.
